● Experience ●
why caroline jones?
Caroline is an industry pro with a personal mission to help those who paved the way for her own career affirm a legacy of success. Her experience in the financial planning arena allows her to understand what it takes to build a practice built over decades, and is close enough to the people who run these firms to see what it costs them to step away from it.
What she watched, again and again, was capable people starting to stall. Professionals who guide others through every major transition of their lives, unable to plan their own. Not because the mechanics were beyond them, but because no one had given them a place to say the harder things out loud, and help them walk a path they’ve never been: navigating a successful transition out of their own career.
So she built a process that did just that.
● The Research ●
“My Jaw dropped. Of all the professionals who should understand the value of planning ahead, I thought it would be financial advisors. It's a blind spot I find Surprising."
Her graduate research at the University of Pennsylvania focused on the part of succession planning and career transition no spreadsheet addresses: identity, purpose, grief, and legacy, and what happens to a founder when the thing they are known for is handed to someone else. It was the subject of her M.S. in Organizational Dynamics at Penn, where she also completed the Leadership & Organizational Coaching program, and it is the foundation of the coaching model she runs today.
That model treats the emotional and the practical as a single process, because, in practice, they are. Rather than a simple packet and a checklist, Caroline Jones has created a program that tries to answer the larger questions that matter most:
What do you want your succession plan to accomplish? What legacy do you intend to leave? What are you running toward, not away from?
Very few people have studied these questions, and their answers, seriously. Fewer have studied them from inside the industry and applied their answers in practice with the people living through it. Caroline is doing both, taking the work out of academia, and putting it into the hands of the owners who need the answers now, before it’s too late.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
It is not. Crown Coaching & Consulting is a coaching practice. Caroline works with financial advisors and planners on the parts of succession that nobody else in the process takes on: what you want true of the practice after you leave, how you tell clients you are going, and who you are once the work stops. There is no financial advice about you or your clients.
-
Caroline is paid for the coaching, not for the outcome. She has no stake in who you sell to and no referral relationships with buyers or aggregators. What you decide is yours to decide.
-
You do not need to be close to retiring to benefit from a good succession plan. Whether you want to step back next year or to keep working another twenty, the plan is the same: deciding what you want true of the practice, and when. Starting early just means you get to build it on your own timeline instead of someone else's.
-
No. Most advisors who reach out have not started, and that is the reason to start here rather than with an attorney or a valuation firm. The first conversation is where you begin working out what you want your succession to accomplish, not where you present something you have already decided.
● Industry Spotlite ●
The conversation the industry keeps having in private
The Financial Planning Association invited Caroline onto FPA Live to talk with Ben Lewis, their Chief Communications and Development Officer, about why financial advisors keep postponing the one plan they build for everyone else. Listen to their conversation below to hear, in her own words, how she discovered the industry's biggest problem and what she has done since to tackle the issue.
Waiting is still the most common Succession plan.
It does not have to be yours.
